Therapy for Teenagers in Falmouth
A calm, judgement-free space for young people navigating anxiety, school stress, identity and overwhelm
Book a ConsultationBeing a teenager today is genuinely hard. School pressure, social media, friendships, identity, family change, neurodivergence, post-pandemic uncertainty — it adds up. A lot of young people carry more than the adults around them realise, and a lot of parents notice their child struggling without being sure how to help.
I'm Sam — a counsellor based in Falmouth, working with teenagers and young people across Cornwall. Sessions are confidential, paced gently, and built around the young person rather than around adult assumptions about what they "should" be feeling.
What Young People Often Come to Therapy For
There's no "big enough" reason needed to start therapy. These are some of the most common reasons teenagers walk through the door:
Anxiety and panic attacks
Low mood and feeling flat or numb
School pressure, exams and burnout
School refusal or struggling to get in
Friendship and social difficulties
Self-esteem and body image
Identity, sexuality and gender
Neurodivergence — ADHD, autism, AuDHD
Family change, separation or grief
Just feeling stuck and not sure why
A young person doesn't need a label or a diagnosis to deserve a space to talk. Sometimes starting therapy is the first time they've had an hour a week that's just theirs.
A Note for Parents & Carers
Most of the parents who get in touch are doing so because they can see their child struggling and don't want to wait for things to get worse. That instinct is the right one.
Confidentiality, with safeguarding
Therapy works best when teenagers know what they say stays in the room. I'm clear with both the young person and the family about how confidentiality works, and the only exceptions are around safeguarding — situations where someone may be at risk of harm.
A gentle start
The first session is low-pressure. There's no requirement to talk about anything heavy straight away. We get to know each other, work out what would be useful, and go from there at their pace.
Parent contact when helpful
I can arrange occasional brief parent check-ins where appropriate — not to share session content, but to discuss how to support the young person well at home. This is always agreed with the young person first.
Experience with neurodivergent young people
Many of the teens I work with are autistic, have ADHD, or are awaiting assessment. I have lived experience of ADHD and dyslexia myself, and sessions adapt to how a young person actually thinks — not how a textbook says they should.
If You're the Young Person Reading This
You don't have to have it all worked out before you come. You don't have to know what's "really" wrong, or whether it's "bad enough" to talk about. If something feels heavy, that's enough of a reason.
You don't have to talk about anything you're not ready to
What you say stays in the room (with safeguarding exceptions)
No quizzes, no homework, no being told what to feel

What Sessions Look Like
Sessions are 50 minutes, weekly or fortnightly, in-person in Falmouth or online across Cornwall. Pace, structure and focus are agreed with the young person directly.
A session might include:
-
Talking about what's been going on this week
-
Working through anxiety, low mood or panic
-
Making sense of friendships, family or identity stuff
-
Practical tools for managing overwhelm and stress
-
Exploring what's important to you and where you want to head
-
Some sessions where we just sit with whatever's there
I work with young people from around age 13 upwards. Sessions are confidential, with safeguarding as the only exception, and held in a safe and calm space.
